Swimming lessons in Morocco

Swimming is the one subject in this catalogue that cannot be taught in your living room. What 'at home' means here is that the instructor comes to you rather than you joining a class — at a private pool, a residence pool, or a pool you have access to. That practical point changes how you book, and it is worth settling first.

Where the lesson actually takes place

This is the first thing to state in the request, because it determines who can answer.

A private or residence pool is the most common arrangement. Confirm you have access at the times you want, whether guests are permitted, and whether there is any restriction on lessons being given — some residences have rules about it.

A pool you book separately works too, but the booking is yours to arrange and its cost is separate from the lesson.

Give the pool's depth and length as well. Teaching a beginner in a pool with no shallow end is a different proposition, and an instructor needs to know before agreeing.

A fearful beginner is the most common case

Adults who never learned are the largest group here, and fear of water is the real subject rather than technique.

What works is slow and unglamorous: getting comfortable putting the face in, breathing out underwater, floating before propelling. An instructor who starts with stroke technique on a fearful adult has misread the situation.

Say plainly at booking that you are afraid, if you are. It is common, it is not embarrassing, and it changes the entire approach — including how long the first lessons should be, which is shorter than you might think.

Safety points to settle before the first lesson

Who supervises children other than the one being taught. An instructor teaching one child cannot watch another in the same pool. This must be someone else's responsibility, explicitly.

Medical conditions: epilepsy, ear problems, asthma, anything affecting breathing. Mention them before, not during.

Water temperature and session length, particularly for young children, who cool faster than adults and lose concentration when cold.

What happens if the pool is unavailable — maintenance, weather, a residence closure. Agreeing a rescheduling rule in advance avoids an awkward conversation later.

The rate

The national reference rate for private tuition is 100 DH per hour. Level, the student's age and frequency determine the quote. Any separate pool booking is not included and is arranged by you.

Frequently asked questions

Can lessons take place in a residence pool?

Usually yes, but check your residence rules first — some restrict lessons or guests. Confirm access at your preferred times before booking, not after.

I am an adult who never learned. Is it too late?

No, and adult beginners are the most common case. The work starts with comfort in water rather than technique, and progress is often faster than people expect once the fear part is addressed properly.

How long should a child's lesson be?

Shorter than an adult's — often thirty minutes. Children cool quickly and lose concentration when cold, so a shorter, more frequent lesson beats a long one.

Who watches my other children during the lesson?

Not the instructor. Someone teaching one child cannot supervise another in the same pool, and this needs to be explicitly someone else's responsibility before the lesson starts.
